48 and Counting

Today marked my 48th birthday. Folks were kind at church (but I wonder why I didn’t get a sub) although I wasn’t quite sure how to take it when one of the wiseguys remarked that I sure didn’t look 48.

After church, we traveled to my wife’s family reunion at a farm up on Dayton Mountain. It was good to see her extended family…must have been about 50 of them this year. Lots of ribbing about getting older and the fact that 50 isn’t really that far away.

When we got back home, we went to Provino’s for dinner…mainly because you get a free entree’ if it’s your birthday. All in all it was a good day. My only regret is that both of my parents have been gone for at least 15 years now. There is so much that I wish that I could share with them and they both would be so proud of our daughter.

Thanks ya’ll. I’ve heard it said that life begins at 40. What I haven’t heard (or I wasn’t listening) was that everything starts falling apart at about that same time.
